Pretty Exciting!!!

I dont know if you have been keeping up with this blog or not, but if you have you might remember a few post i did a while back. They were shoots that i had done for a local publication, at the time i wasn't allowed to say which publication this was as the magazine wasn't going to be published for a while. Well it finally came out on the 16th, the magazine is Encinitas magazine, they are operated by the same people that put out Carlsbad Magazine. If youre from the Cbad area you might remember seeing one of my night photos in a past issue. This little journey with Encinitas Magazine actually began al most a year ago, they had me go out to Paul Ecke Ranch (HUGE poinsettia farm in Encinitas) to take photos of their operation their, this was way before their 1st issue was ever published. This was all done in anticipation of their holiday issue to be put out this year (the current issue), this year it was really kind of hit and miss with them since every time i got an email with a possible assignment i was already booked. But i kept sending emails and checking in periodically to see if they needed me to shoot anything and sure enough they had some stories they needed photos for. They have been keeping me nice and busy, and i absolutely love doing this freelance stuff cus its a lot of fun. So the exciting thing is that i got a BUNCH of my photos in this issue not only that but they gave me the COVER!!! How cool is that?!?!?! I dont have a good shot of the cover yet but i will post all the other stuff for now, im looking forward to shooting some more for them and i excited to venture out and pursue some more freelance work.......wish me luck or even better keep me in your prayers. Ive got tone.....FOX ONE!!!

So we got some rain here in SoCal on Friday night, that means that we had some nice yummy clouds for the arishow on Saturday. Yes day 2 of the show was just fantastic some of the acts had to be restricted a little bit since the clouds were so low but it still went on. Caught some more shtos of the Thunderbirds and i will say that their show was definitly better the second time around. Shoting was fun, although having all those clouds presented one little challenge, the exposure range was huge!!! The planes would fly from one side which had broken up clouds and a very bright sun, to the other side that had a solid wall of dark grey sky. That was a fun little excersise in trying to figure out what to go for, but once that part was figures out it was just a matter of staying on my toes and taking some shots. I got a shot as 2 of the planes crossed each other but right as i take the shot this guys head pops right into my field of view...........bitterness. What can you do though? Saturday the show went on until nightfall so i went around and shot some long exposure shots which were a lot of fun. I stuck around for the night time show but honestly it was kind of dissapointing, all the planes kept having technical malfunctions (mainly the jets) so most of them just did one pass and then landed. By then i had been there for so long i was over it and decided to leave......and wouldnt you know it they had a huge fireworks display. I was already out the gates though and wasnt about to lug all my gear back to shoot, plus Jen and Will and Cassie had coem out to join me and we were all tired. I guess i know for next year, actually this year i didnt shoot nearly as much as i have in years past. Theres only so many ways to shoot static displays and such, all in all it was an awesome show at Miramar. Heres day 2. Enjoy!!

Hes on your six!!! Hes on your six!!!

It is one again that time of the year, when very loud jet powered toys take to the skies to shatter the calm and quiet of Miramar. Yes its the Miramar Airshow ladies and gentlemen, and i for one am very excited. I love aviation and military aircraft in particular, so this time fo the year is always a nice treat for me. I went today and actually ended up going a lot later in the day than normal. My ploarizer bit the dust about a week ago and so i had to get a new one (actually i got 2) but of course had to wait until the store opened before i could get them. Store didnt open till 10 and so byt the time i would have gotten the filters and made my way out to Miramar i would have been shooting in gross 12:00 light. So i waited till later and got out there around 3:30 and just in time to see the Thunderbirds take off, the Blue Angels werent there this year so the Thunderbirds took their place. It was way cool to see a different team take the skies this year but i will admit that it didnt have the same impact on me as the Angels do. It was still amazing though, i had a blast got to shoot some cool photos blah blah blah. I could go on forever im so excited...........im glad that today was just the 1st day. Really looking forward to tomorrow to catch some night stuff and do some long exposures. Heres some from today. Enjoy!!

More delicious skies....

So i have taken to shooting clouds lately.....i dont really know why. I think it might be because clouds can provide such a dramatic element to things and i have come to appreciate that more and more. One thing i dont really like to shoot very much is sunsets, not because i dont love them but more because there are literally hundreds of thousands of people out there shooting sunsets so one less person doing isn't going to matter. The other day though we came home and Jen and i were exhausted!! I wasnt about to stay out longer and get some sunset shots in Cbad cus i was pooped and just wanted to get home. I was looking in the rear view mirror the whole way home though, and when we pulled in i grabbed the camera and took some shots, shooting around my house is not an easy thing mind you. There are power lines and other houses everywhere but lucky for me all i wanted to do was shoot the sky with and some of the clouds. I dont think i got anything spectacular but they were still fun and i love the colors, the last 2 images are a little soft as far as focus goes but i still love the reds in the clouds and the texture. So heres some photos. Enjoy!

Kirkos the magnificent.....

I was sent out on assignment on Friday to take pictures of a local artist named Kirkos. He does these really cool designs on the sand, let me tell you that these things are HUGE. They look so cool when they are done, its so funny watching people go by and just stare trying to figure it out and see what it is. If you go up to the top of the cliffs then you can get an aerial view of the design and get to see the whole thing. Kirk was a lot of fun to talk to and it was really interesting hearing about all the work that goes into it, this particular design he said takes about 3 hours, there are others that he has done that can take 5 or more.....crazy. It was cool watching him work and seeing all of these nifty tools that has to sculpt the sand. I stuck around until he was done and stayed to get some sunset stuff. It was the end of a good day, Kirk you are amazing i can see why you have so many fans. Heres some pics. Enjoy!

Moonrise over Carlsbad...

Well the name says it all, so i wont write a lot. Im trying to catch the moonrise without having to do a blended image......it has proven harder than i thought. I tried to get it this time but there was a lot of haze in the sky so the image isnt as clear as i want......which means that i will try again next time around. Anyhoo heres 2 images that i shot not great but ill keep trying. Enjoy!

The Coronado Incident

Finally went out and did some night shooting a couple of nights ago, ive been so busy lately that i havent had a chance to shoot stuff that i really like to shoot. My buddy Mike Baca and i ventured out into the night and headed down to Coronado in SD. I have been on the island before but never to do some night shooting, Mike had a spot that he likes to go to and so we shot there. It was fun and i really liked getting out and shooting again, some clouds would have been nice but alas no luck. I didnt shoot a ton so i dont have a lot of photos and most of them im not all that thrilled about. There was this little beach area though thats used to park small boats and got a shot there that i like. As always the night was not without incident and we met some drunk people on the beach...theyre always entertaining. We also saw some guy washing his car next to the bathroom at 2am......yeah i know. I guess Coronado must be the place to wash your car at 2am......either that or he was a murderer and was washing away evidence. Finally as we were driving towards the bridge we were stopped at a stop light. Mikes friend James ( who came along with us ) was in the back apparently fascinated by my 1 million candle power spot light or portable sun burn as i call it. While sitting there we see a guy roaming the streets walks up to an SUV and starts asking the driver something, we dont know what but he seemed to be annoyed. SUV drives off, random guy is in the middle of the intersection looking around..........wacko sees us.......big smile....puts thumbs up......runs towards us. *we all roll up windows* james in back "should i blind him?" me "no not yet just be ready" yep wacko is definitely walking towards us......."now james BLIND HIM!!!!!!" *spot light goes on* "its green go!!!" *we speed away* we looked back to make sure he wasnt some superhuman psycho that could outrun the car. we were in the clear mike and i were relieved nothing bad happened........james was happy he got to blind someone....and that was our night.
